Driveway drop vs. blown-in
A standard driveway drop makes sense for smaller orders you will wheelbarrow yourself, or when the beds are close to where a truck can park. Blown-in delivery is worth the added cost on larger properties or beds far from driveway access — the blower truck can reach up to 200 feet with a hose, which turns what would be dozens of wheelbarrow trips into a couple of hours of raking to finish grade. It is also the better option when a driveway pile would block access to a garage or sit in the way for longer than a day, since the material lands directly where it needs to be instead of staging in a spot you then have to work around.
Installing delivered mulch yourself
Aim for 2 to 3 inches of depth, kept clear of plant stems and tree trunks by a few inches to avoid trapping moisture against them. Rake it level rather than leaving mounded piles, which shed water instead of holding it. Work from the back of the bed toward the edge so you are not walking through freshly spread mulch, and keep a tarp or extra plywood sheet down on the lawn where the pile sits to protect the grass underneath if it will be there more than a day.
